MindShift app review

'Preventing anxiety from controlling your life'

‘Think of MindShift as your portable coach helping you face challenging situations and take charge of your life’.

MindShift helps people learn the basic skills to manage their symptoms of anxiety disorders, including social anxiety, specific phobias, panic attacks, performance anxiety and perfectionism. The skills taught can be applied to individuals with emotional, physical or cognitive expressions of anxiety, helping them change the way they perceive feared situations and helping them lead a worry-free life.

Using ‘Coping with test anxiety’ as an example, the app has a step-by-step guide on how to deal with anxiety; from the week(s) before the test right up until during the test itself. MindShift provides obvious tips that we can forget in stressful situations or anxious moments; so it’s great to have a reminder of what to do in a moment of panic.

The information and strategies of dealing with potential anxious situations are simple, clear and concise, meaning the tips are extremely easy to follow. ‘Quick tips’ are included to assist with in-the-moment anxiety attacks, and ‘chill out’ tools such as mental visualisations, relaxation exercises and mindfulness strategies help ‘dial down your anxiety and stress’.

Other features

The ‘Check yourself’ part of MindShift is also very useful; it allows you to realise when you’re having an anxiety attack so you can be proactive and do something about it before you lose control. Checking symptoms boxes such as ‘tightness in your chest’ and ‘light-headedness or dizziness’ will confirm whether you are actually having an anxiety attack or whether you are just thinking you are (this is actually a very common problem).

If you are just as interested in anxiety and stress as you are in combating it, ‘Anxiety 101’ will be the main part of your use of this mental health app. ‘Anxiety 101’ is basically a Q&A page, with important questions about anxiety answered with detailed and informational responses. This feature can be used as an important part of your battle against anxiety and stress, as you will really get to know about what causes anxiety and exactly how to get the better of it.
