Healthy eating app for families
In collaboration with Public Health Warwickshire and local universities including Coventry University, Health Heroes is the first evidence-based app aimed at helping families to manage their portion sizes. The project involves extensive research with parents with overweight children and utilises groundbreaking methods drawn from the fields of Health Psychology, User Centred Design (UCD), Gamification & Persuasive technologies.
Users can log their daily food intake (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and play the daily quiz to gain coins to progress further on the game aspect of Health Heroes. Logging their food results in comparing their own balance wheel to the suggested balance wheel, giving users hints and tips on how to improve their overall diet. Health Heroes is originally targeted at families and helping them to manage portion sizes; the game side of the app features a family leaderboard to add in a bit of competitiveness to ensure users are doing their best to eat healthily.
